Effluent Treatment Plant

Mode of operation:

The predominantly alkali effluents in the brewery (No excrements!) from different production areas, brew house, fermenting and storage area, filtration and filling will be collected and treated depending on condition. Acid effluents will be separated and used for neutralisation of alkali waters.

•  Yeast and filtration additives will be disposed separate.

In a first step solids, labels and crown corks as well as other insoluble residues will be discharged manually. This pre-cleaned effluent will be intermediately stored in a tank. To avoid a sedimentation of still existant solids the water will be circulated by pumps. In a second, larger tank the effluents are homogeneously mixed and neutralized. This means according to pH-value alkali or acid media will be used. To avoid dumping (decomposition!) of the effluent the mixing vessel is equipped with aeration nozzles. The air needed for aeration is provided by a rotary piston compressor.

The pH-value of the effluent depends on local regulations and can be adjusted accordingly.

Configuration of the plant:

ROTOPASS

Effluent from the different areas reaches the Rotopass through a collecting pipe, 1st. Step of the treatment. The effluent is dispersed on a strainer barrel. The solid will be held back and discharged by a scraper. This pre-cleaned water is exhausted from the strainer and according to pH-value (acid / alkali) pumped into one of two effluent vessels. The solids held back on the strainer fall into a sqeezing worm-gear. The solids will be compressed and the upcoming effluent is pumped into the collection vessel of the plant. The squeezed solid will be discharged into a container.

Effluent feed and speed of the strainer barrel are controlled by level meters. This means, the plant operates according to the volume flow.

The pre-cleaned effluent is exhausted from a vessel under the Rotopass by a centrifugal pump and forwarded to one of the two effluent tanks. The separation is automatical according to pre-adjusted pH-value.

Effluent tank 1  Effluent tank 2
Diameter: 5,43 m  13,97 m
Height:     4,93 m 4,93 m
Total Volume: 114 m³  755 m³
Usable Volume: 102 m³ 680 m³

The tanks are made of stainless steel – overlapped plates which are fixed with stainless steel screws. The joints are sealed with chemical resistant lubricate. Both tanks are connected by a maintenance platform. The tanks are covered by a fiber-glass cover. All tanks are equipped with min. /max. level meters.

Tank 1 is for acid effluent which is used to neutralize the alkali effluent in tank 2.

Tank 2 is equipped with a circulating pump and an aeration device. The aeration is made by Roots rotary piston blower. The air flows in through nozzles at the end of the circulation pipe and guarantees a good mixture and oxigenation of the effluent. The neutralisation follows automatically, controlled by sensors which measure the pH-value continously and correct is according to adjusted values. Therefore either acid effluent from tank 1 or industrial acid will be dosed.

For aeration two rotary piston compressors are available.

Control: Braumat / Siemens

The effluent tanks have a flat bottom and have to be erected on a solid concrete base. To balance unevenesses (max. 10 mm) the tanks are placed on felt-plates and fixed with anchors.
